Two Wisconsin Energy Institute researchers have been elected to the American Academy of Microbiology.
Chris Todd Hittinger and Jean-Michel Ane were among 65 fellows to receive the honor in 2025. Members of the leadership group of the American Society for Microbiology are elected annually through a peer-review process based on their scientific achievement and original contributions that advance the field of microbiology.
Hittinger, a professor of genetics, studies diversity and evolution of yeast carbon metabolism with the goal of better understanding how to engineer complex biological systems to meet our energy needs.
A professor of bacteriology and plant and agroecosystem sciences, Ane studies mutually beneficial associations between plants and microbes.
Hittinger and Ane were among three University of Wisconsin–Madison faculty in this year's class, along with Andrew Mehle, professor of medical microbiology and immunology.
