The American Chemical Society has named UW–Madison professor Ive Hermans, who studies complex reaction mechanisms, as an ACS fellow.
Established in 2008, the ACS fellowship program recognizes scholars for their achievements and contributions to science, the profession, and the ACS. Hermans, a professor of chemistry and chemical and biological engineering, is one of 42 fellows for 2023.
Hermans’ work focuses on the synthesis of chemicals and energy carriers using catalytic technology.
The ACS previously honored Hermans in 2019 for his research on the clean and energy-efficient conversion of raw materials to more complex products, such as the conversion of natural gas to building blocks for plastics.
