Jason Peters' work couples CRISPR-based functional genomics with cross-species analysis to perform a systematic analysis of gene networks, providing pioneering insights into the fundamental mechanisms by which bacteria respond to antibiotics and guiding new strategies to fight bacterial infections. Peters is also involved in biofuels research with the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, where he uses CRISPR interference (CRISPRi) to identify genes that make bacteria more tolerant of the harsh chemical conditions used to produce biofuels.
