The Wisconsin Electric Machines and Power Electronics Consortium (WEMPEC) is an internationally renowned research group established at UW–Madison in 1981. With the support of more than 80 corporate sponsors, WEMPEC’s team of professors, graduate students, and international scholars work together to research and develop the newest technologies and techniques in electric machines, power electronics, actuators, sensors, drives, motion control, and drive applications.
Industrial sponsors with an interest in electric machines and power electronics help support an active research program in the UW–Madison’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering. WEMPEC faculty have established a comprehensive curriculum related to electrical machines and power electronics that serves university students as well as engineers already established in the industry.
With its mission to provide education, research, and service, WEMPEC serves as a model for research partnerships between universities and industry.
