Professor of Materials Science & Engineering
College of Engineering
Michael Arnold's Research Group focuses on the study of advanced carbon-based materials for photovoltaic solar energy, photodetectors and optoelectronics, fluid separations, and semiconductor electronics. Research in these areas will drive the engineering community for the coming decades because of mankind's rapidly growing consumption of energy and due to the continued demand for smaller, faster, and cheaper electronic devices and materials.
Research Interests
- Carbon nanotubes
- Atomically thin sheets of graphene
- Two-dimensional materials
- Semiconducting molecules and polymers
- Heterostructures that integrate these components with conventional, macroscopic materials
