Providing an antibiotic-free solution for improving ethanol yield
Early-stage start-up Lactic Solutions uses genetic engineering to convert lactic acid bacteria, the organisms that infect ethanol fermentations, to produce ethanol rather than lactic acid. Additionally, these organisms are engineered to produce compounds that inhibit the contaminating lactic acid bacteria. Lactic Solutions will provide ethanol production facilities with an antibiotic-free microbial solution that eliminates the necessity of antibiotic use, improves ethanol yield, and increases the value of co-products.
In October 2017, Lactic Solutions was acquired by Lallemand Biofuels & Distilled Spirits (a unit of Lallemand Inc.). Read more about the acquisition here.
