Pipe Cleaner Polymers Workshop

Bioplastics will change the way we think about plastic – so what are they exactly? Pipe Cleaner Polymers is a hands-on modeling activity that answers this question by exploring plastics at the molecular level. After building molecules with pipe cleaners and discussing how plastic impacts the environment, we’ll introduce students to a fascinating research project at WEI that uses microorganisms to create bioplastics, which are made using plant material!

Intended for students in grades 2 through 8.

Materials needed: 8 pipe cleaners (6 of one color and 2 of another), scissors.

This is the second workshop in our free Virtual Learning Series, offering three 45-minute activities on November 13th, November 20th, and December 4th. Register your classroom or family for one, or all three!
