Conversion

Conversion UW-Madison microbiology researchers in the Experimental Fermentation Lab use a wide variety of yeast and microbe strains to study the process of converting sugars from plants into advanced biofuels (above).

UW–Madison researchers, including those working at the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center, are focused on creating a competitive and environmentally sustainable biofuel economy that will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. In an effort to break down the barriers to developing economically viable biofuels technologies, our conversion experts are conducting research that increases the quantity, diversity, and efficiency of biofuels and bioproducts.
