Abstract
RESET (Renewable Energy Siting & Engagement for Tomorrow), a program of UW-Madison Extension, helps Wisconsin communities navigate utility-scale renewable energy development by providing trusted, nonpartisan education, resources, and engagement support. As solar and wind projects expand across rural areas, RESET equips local leaders, landowners, and residents with fact-based information about siting, permitting, local impacts, and community benefits so they can participate effectively in decision-making processes.
Drawing on expertise from a collaborative network of public agencies, agricultural organizations, conservation groups, local government associations, and industry partners, RESET serves as a neutral resource that helps communities identify local priorities, address concerns, and pursue outcomes that reflect local values.
Through educational materials, practical planning tools, community engagement processes, and access to subject-matter experts, RESET supports informed, constructive conversations about clean energy development and its impacts on rural communities.
In this talk, we will cover the current electricity landscape leading to the buildout of large-scale renewable energy in Wisconsin, laws and regulations around renewable energy development in the state, and how local communities can engage in the development process.
