Wisconsin is known for its agriculture and now it is growing solar energy! How can we balance our need for renewable energy with our need for agricultural land? One answer may be agrivoltaics! Agrivoltaics is the combining of agricultural activities, including growing crops or raising livestock, with photovoltaics (solar panels). In this activity, students think about how we make land use decisions and what conflicts may exist. They will reflect on their own decision making process as well as examine how others may have different perspectives. Finally, students will be introduced to the idea of agrivoltaics and how using the land for multiple purposes can help with some of the conflicts we see today in land use.
