UW-Madison committed to keeping Energy Institute open amid budget cuts

The University of Wisconsin-Madison plans to come up with the millions of dollars needed to keep the Wisconsin Energy Institute — a hub for UW energy research — operating.

Until now, the funding had come from the state rather than the university, but Gov. Scott Walker removed that funding as part of a proposal to cut back state support for the university system and give it more autonomy.

In responding to the budget passed last week by the Legislature, UW-Madison officials said they are committed to continue state support for the energy institute.
