Requirements: Postdoc candidates should have a PhD with a strong background in molecular genetics, genomics, microbiology, metabolic engineering, and/or synthetic biology. Experience in analyzing Illumina sequence data, bioinformatics, computer programming, metabolic engineering, and CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering are highly desirable.

Interested Candidates: Please send a CV, any manuscript p/reprints, and contact information for 2 references to cthittinger@wisc.edu and tksato@glbrc.wisc.edu. Specifically mention why you are interested in this position in your email.

Job Duties: The DOE Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC, www.glbrc.org) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking to hire a postdoctoral research associate interested in applying metabolic engineering, genomic, and synthetic biology approaches to improving cellulosic biofuel production in yeast. The postdoc will be jointly mentored by Prof. Chris Todd Hittinger (hittinger.genetics.wisc.edu) and Dr. Trey Sato to research how to increase the conversion of xylose, a pentose sugar prevalent in plant biomass, into isobutanol by Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Postdoctoral projects will include a mix of independent and collaborative research with a team of other GLBRC scientists, postdocs, students, and faculty. The postdoc will have access to the Center's vast knowledge and resources for CRISPR/Cas9-based metabolic engineering, natural strain and chemical genomics libraries, industrially-relevant lignocellulosic hydrolysates, metabolomics, and synthetic biology tools to address a crucial 21st century challenge: meeting the world's need for biofuels and bioproducts that are economically viable and environmentally sustainable.
