Thomas Jeffries' research focuses on metabolic engineering of novel yeasts for the production of fuels (ethanol) from cellulosic and hemicellulosic sugars. He has 35 years of accumulated experience in resource planning, bioconversion, pretreatment, hydrogen production and the production of ethanol from woody and agricultural residues using cellulases, hemicellulases and yeasts.​
