Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies

Richard Shaten's focus is on the economic analysis of energy systems. He is particularly interested in: 1) the inclusion of environmental and other externality costs of fossil, nuclear and renewable energy; 2) applications for transportation; 3) long run availability and life cycle (including externality) costs of competing energy resources.

  • Economic analysis and environmental impacts of renewable energy
  • Social and political conflict surrounding renewable energy
  • Environmental impacts caused by fossil and nuclear fuel cycles
  • Environmental economics and economic justification for regulatory policy
