Job Description: 

The Wisconsin Energy Institute (WEI, http://energy.wisc.edu/) of UW-Madison is hiring a 12-month Graduate (Project) Assistant for 2014-2015, open to graduate students.  This position will be at 50%, with a monthly stipend of approximately $1,538.

Degree, and area of specialization:

BA/BS required - science, engineering, environmental studies, education, or related

Type of relevant work experience:

Must have experience working in outreach and/or educational efforts

Strong written and oral communication and collaboration skills are required

Candidate must be internally motivated to work as a member of a dynamic team focused on sustainable energy research, education and outreach

Experience in working with scientists and/or engineers is a plus

The Wisconsin Energy Institute (WEI) provides an objective forum to exchange ideas on energy issues; to focus, integrate and transfer knowledge; and to identify needs in energy resources, technology, use and impacts. Specifically, we seek to: 1) foster collaborative energy projects across sectors and disciplines, 2) prepare energy leaders of today and tomorrow, and 3) enhance public understanding of energy issues.

The graduate Project Assistant will be part of a team dedicated to creating and implementing education and outreach materials for a variety of audiences. This position will require a limited amount of state and possibly regional travel, and occasional evening and weekend work. Primary duties will include:

Develop, organize, coordinate and evaluate informal education and outreach events and programs for the campus community, the public, and K-16 students throughout the state of Wisconsin

Initiate, create, and build on existing collaborations with campus networks and resources to develop specific outreach activities and opportunities

Serve as the WEI point person for campus requests for student and/or teacher visits, internships and other opportunities

Coordinate student and/or teacher visits to WEI, based on building resources and availability

Develop and maintain education materials and programs for field trips and special visits to WEI

Lead informal building tours as needed

Identify and build relationships with potential new partners locally and statewide. Maintain mutually beneficial relationships and participate in planning teams related to these efforts

Collaborate with scientists, researchers, educators and communications specialists on education and outreach-related projects

Staff exhibit booth/activities at events as needed
