Job Description: 

The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is one of three Department of Energy Bioenergy Research Centers conducting fundamental, genomics-based research on microbial and plant systems required to realize the national need for low-cost biofuels.  GLBRC represents a multidisciplinary partnership with expertise spanning the physical and biological sciences, including genomics, microbial and plant biology, analytical chemistry, computational biology and bioinformatics, and engineering.

We seek a highly motivated student hourly programmer to participate in design and development of in-house data repositories and custom software.

Required knowledge, skills and experience:

Object Oriented Programming (CS 302 or equivalent experience in Ruby, Java, C++, Python, or similar modern language)

Data Structures (CS 367 or equivalent)

Familiarity with HTML, CSS and Java Script

Linux

Multiple language experience

Relational database principles

Demonstrated ability to clearly document code

Ability to work 35 to 40 hours per week during the summer and 12 to 20 hours most weeks during the academic term, primarily during “normal business hours”

Beneficial skills and experience:

Ruby on Rails

Web application development

Comfortable with SQL

Version control system (e.g., Subversion)

Agile development methods

Pay rate:

$10.00 to $12.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
